Flamstead Scarecrow Festival

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR VILLAGE ORGANISATIONS WISHING TO RUN ACTIVITIES DURING THE FLAMSTEAD SCARECROW FESTIVAL

As in previous years, we will be liaising with village charities, organisations and businesses to ensure that all organisations have the opportunity to benefit from the festival and the footfall in the village, so if you are heading up an organisation, please do feel free to contact us if we haven’t been in touch already to discuss how we can help you benefit from the festival.

Also, it’s really important that we know about all activities taking place over the festival weekend, so please do let us know what you are planning. In previous years we have had activities running which the committee weren’t informed about.

With the introduction of ‘Health and Safety Sentencing Guidelines’ in 2016 and the recent UK prosecutions of charities for health and safety breaches, charities must be ‘health and safety compliant’ to avoid significant fines or possible imprisonment.

Put simply, this means that FOSL as a charity, and its Trustees are responsible for the “risk” attached to the festival, and we have to submit risk assessment and health and safety documentation in order to be compliant in running the festival.

Therefore, we need to be aware of ALL ACTIVITIES being run in the public domain under the banner of the Flamstead Scarecrow Festival by the 5th May as FOSL is legally responsible for the health and safety aspects of any activities not happening on private property and we need to submit documentation for these activities in advance of the festival.

Plus, knowing about the activities you are planning on running, means that they can also be advertised as part of the festival beforehand and in the festival programme.

If you could let us know about the activities your organisation is planning to run by the 5th May, by emailing contact@flamsteadscarecrowfestival.co.uk, then it would be much appreciated as we have to submit documentation not long after.

Thanks in advance for your co-operation
